International School is a Christian bilingual school located in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, serving many Honduran children and their families. As a teacher, you can explore life in Latin America as you grow spiritually, professionally, and form new and lasting relationships.

Academics
Academics are of high importance at International School. We follow a North American calendar of September to June. Our English curriculum use textbooks from North American publishers which are updated on a regular basis. As most of our 1,000 students are learning in their second language, we make an extra effort to offer extensive review sessions and after school programs to assist them in their learning. Our students are qualified to continue their education at universities and colleges, in the United States, Honduras, and other countries.
Christian Emphasis
[students praying] As a Christian school, we are dedicated to modeling Christ for our students. Our Christian Education Department oversees the Bible curriculum, which is taught at all grade levels. Chapels are held on a regular basis for all students, and there are extra curricular activities to help foster spiritual growth.Teachers attend devotions and share their faith with one another as well as with their students.

Statement of Faith
  • We believe in that the Bible is that inspired and only infallible Word of God.
  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, his atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of God and His return in power and glory.
  • We believe that regeneration is provided through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross is essential for each person.

Community
Most North American International School teachers and staff live in houses located near the school. Single teachers will share houses, and married couples will have their own apartment or house. Each teacher will have his or her own bedroom. Houses are furnished by the school with items such as couches, chairs, basic cooking supplies, utensils, TV, VCR, table, bed and dressers. International School values the importance of community amongst the teachers. Many teachers form close friendships with their housemates and coworkers during their time here through various activities and retreats that you are invited to attend. We understand that making a move to a new country may cause some concerns or reservations, and we want to assure you that we will assist in any way that we can to help your adjustment to Honduras and International School to be a smooth one.

Living in Honduras
Honduras is a Central American country with about seven million people. It is located between Guatemala and Nicaragua, with El Salvador off to the west. Honduras is primarily a rural country, although Tegucigalpa, where International School is located, is a large urban center with about one million residents. Here, where Spanish is the primary language, you will have the opportunity to meet all types of people from many different backgrounds and learn about life in a developing country. You will have time to explore different parts of Honduras and Central America during the various breaks or long weekends at the school.
